Itinerary: Tour from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert 3 days
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
The journey begins early in Marrakech, where your driver greets you and leads you out of the city toward the High Atlas Mountains. As the road climbs higher through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the scenery changes constantly, revealing terraces carved into mountainsides, small Berber villages made of clay, and winding roads that offer panoramic views across the Atlas range. You stop several times for photos, short explorations, and to enjoy the crisp mountain air. Your adventure continues to Ait Ben Haddou, the most famous kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You step inside its ancient walls and walk through narrow alleys lined with traditional mudbrick houses that still preserve the charm of the old caravan days.
After a rich and immersive visit, you continue toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” where desert cities and dramatic landscapes create a natural stage for movies and series. You drive through the lush Skoura Oasis and follow the road into the Valley of Roses, passing villages surrounded by pink flower fields during the blooming season. The day ends in Dades Valley, where the mountains shift into warm colors as the sun sets. You settle into your hotel, have dinner, and enjoy a peaceful night in this beautiful valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga Desert – Camel Trek – Desert Camp
After breakfast, you leave Dades and drive deeper into the south toward the magnificent Todra Gorge. The cliffs rise high above you, carved by the river into a spectacular corridor that attracts nature lovers and rock climbers. You walk between the towering rock walls and feel the fresh breeze of the stream flowing below. The road to the desert continues through a landscape that becomes drier and more open as you approach the Sahara. You pass through traditional villages, palm groves, and the long stretches of the Tafilalet region until the first golden dunes of Merzouga appear on the horizon. When you reach the edge of Erg Chebbi, your camel caravan waits for you.
You begin a magical camel trek across the dunes while the sun slowly sinks behind the sand mountains and transforms the landscape into shades of gold and red. Your desert camp welcomes you with warm hospitality, mint tea, and a traditional Berber dinner served under the stars. Musicians play drums by the campfire, and the silence of the night creates an unforgettable atmosphere. You spend the night in a private desert tent, surrounded by the calm of the Sahara.
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Middle Atlas – Ifrane – Fes
You wake up early to witness one of the most beautiful moments of the entire trip: the sunrise over the dunes. The desert glows with soft colors as the first light touches the sand. After breakfast at the camp, you begin the long yet fascinating road to Fes. The landscape transforms again as you leave the Sahara behind and enter the long palm-filled Ziz Valley, where thousands of date trees stretch along the river. You pass through the desert town of Errachidia, climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, and stop in Midelt for a break.
The scenery becomes greener as you approach the cedar forests near Azrou, where Barbary monkeys live freely among the trees. Road leads you next to Ifrane, a clean and modern town known for its European-style architecture, crisp mountain air, and peaceful parks. The final stretch takes you to the historic city of Fes, where your driver drops you at your accommodation and the journey concludes after three full days of adventure, culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
